Forklift Tire Specs
Ever since the year 1917, important tools utilized within industry and commercial businesses are forklifts. During its history the forklift has changed through various forms, from a tractor with a platform attachment to a specialized high-tech equipment. Forklift tires have also evolved into particular tires, with different kinds designed to suit specific functions.
Cushion (Solid) Tires
A cushion tire is constructed of rubber or solid polyurethane and is suitable for indoor work on smooth surfaces. The tread of a cushion tire is pressed or binded onto the steel ring of the tire. Cushion tires are rated for various load capacities and for ease of steering. Cushion tires are usually used in warehouse settings.
Pneumatic Tires
Pneumatic forklift tires are filled with foam or air. They come in two types: bias or radial. Depending upon the application, they come with different sidewall protection, tread depths and weight. Foam-filled pneumatic forklift tires maintain constant pressures and are less susceptible to punctures. Pneumatic tires are usually utilized outdoors on rough, uneven surfaces.
Pneumatic Shaped Solid/Solid Pneumatic
Solid Pneumatic Hybrid tires combine the puncture resistance of a solid tire with the comfortable ride of a pneumatic tire. They are an alternative to the outdoor pneumatic tire.
Large Rubber and Flotation Tires
Large rubber tires, which can be pneumatic, foam or solid, are used on wheel loader forklifts. These kinds of tires are best for loading and moving heavy objects into processing equipment or onto trucks. Large flotation pneumatic tires are suited for masted rough terrain forklifts usually utilized at lumberyards, construction sites and auto recyclers.
