Lift Truck Components in More Detail
A forklift is constructed from numerous components. The key parts that make up a lift truck are the frame of the truck, the engine parts, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. What's more, a lift truck has a range of attachments. All the components making up a forklift are of equal importance because they work together to make the equipment's operation possible. The following paragraphs describe several of the forklift parts in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits over the cab area and protects the equipment operator while he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck will damage the controls in the cab or harm the driver. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on several models.
The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical forklift component made of interlocking rails. The mast allows the forks to move up and down while providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails could either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast may be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Lift Truck Carriage - the forks and various other kinds of attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is connected to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is connected by chains. To allow the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage could have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - While the carriage is raised to full height, there is a back rest made of metal that keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - a range of attachments could be fixed to the front of the lift truck. The most common attachment is forks. Additionally, there are L-shaped members, rollers, rotators, roll clamps, pole handlers and and all that. These different kinds of attachments are helpful for moving various kinds of loads.
