Narrow aisle forklifts
Usually used within warehouse operations is the Narrow Aisle Forklift. These types of forklifts are important machines in the industry because their small size and extreme maneuverability allow warehouses to maximize storing space. They can easily go around aisles that are 1.8 meters wide, whereas typical lift trucks require at least 3.4 meters of aisle width.
The two kinds are "narrow aisle forklift" and the "very narrow aisle forklift". The first require 2.4 meters - 3 meters in aisle width, whereas the latter can function in a 1.8 meters wide space.
The design of the narrow aisle forklift features forks that are positioned at right angles to the truck body. The trucks do not need to face the shelves, but instead drive straight down the aisle picking up loads to the side. This design feature is the key to their suitability for limited spaces.
To be able to make certain that the forklift is moving in a straight line down the aisle, some very narrow aisle forklifts include optical or wire systems. That way, the operator could concentrate more on the placement and the picking of loads.
These lifts are outfitted with cushion tires made from solid rubber. The hard tires perform well on smooth, paved surfaces and concrete floors. Narrow aisle forklifts have electric motors which is best utilized in indoor environments. Propane-powered models are available as well.
