Kinds of Aisles
Lift trucks are classified due to the kinds of aisles they have been designed to work in. Wide Aisle and Narrow Aisle lift trucks are designed to turn in the aisle, whilst Very Narrow Aisle trucks actually don't turn in the aisle. There are some aisle widths to consider with different models.
Very Narrow Aisle trucks can work in less than 6 feet places, whereas several will use certain guidance systems such as rail, wire or optical systems in order to travel in the aisles. Several different models of VNA trucks comprise Order Selectors, Turret Trucks and Swing Masts. These are popular models in compact retail spaces and in some storage and warehouse situations.
NA or Narrow Aisle trucks are able to operate within aisles which are 8 feet to 10 feet. Normally these are stand-up models like for example Reach Trucks. They are often used within storage facilities and warehouses.
The wide aisle forklift is designed to work in aisles more than 8 feet to 10 feet.
Stand-Up Ergonomics
The "Ergomat" padding on stand-up models provide padding on a sloped floorboard. These features are made to lessen operator fatigue by absorbing vibration. The operator compartment is large and has an 8" low step height which helps lessen overall body exhaustion by easing frequent entry and exit. The unit consists of polyurethane steer tires to absorb vibration and shocks caused by uneven floor in order to enable smooth traveling. For additional comfort, there is a cushioned armrest and floor mat along with a backrest designed to help keep drivers comfortable and thus more productive while limiting exhaustion.
