The forklift is a material handling machine used to lift and move loads from one place to another. Every part of a forklift has a specific function. Different components could be utilized to transport the load vertically or horizontally.

Mast
The parts utilized to lift and lower the load is referred to as the forklift mast. There are various kinds of masts for raising loads to various heights: duplex, triplex, quad and simplex.

Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is located inside the cab beneath the seat. The propane tank is on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is underneath the back of the truck.

Cab
Located within the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The gas pedal, steering wheel, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all located within the cab.

Frame
Carrying all the biggest forklift parts is the truck frame. This includes the counterweights located at the rear that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the axles, wheels and driveshaft.
